Volunteers In Medical Missions

Honduras La Esperanza

Cost: $1,750 Team Members Needed

Leader: Dr. Leslie Myers Co-Leader: Prof. Ashley Lee

We are planning a medical mission trip to the villages surrounding La Esperanza in the province of Intubica. We will visit mountain villages and minister to the villagers there. La Esperanza is in the southwestern mountains, close to the El Salvadorian border. Because of the elevation the weather is pleasant although you can expect afternoon showers almost on a daily basis. The team will visit a different village each day, providing primary care to the Lenca Indians who are descendants of the Mayan people. The team will stay at a Baptist Retreat Center in La Esperanza. It is clean, adequate, and has electricity, as well as indoor plumbing with hot showers. The Center will provide us three meals a day. This will include sandwich lunches.

The team will probably see between 300 and 500 patients each day. In the evening we will gather for a time of sharing and devotions. The days are long but you will be glad that you made the trip and you will probably receive more from the trip than those to whom you are ministering. We expect everyone to contribute to the effort with prayer, hard work, flexibility and a positive attitude. We would encourage all that are going, to please comply with the dates that VIMM has established for returning your application and the dates for payments. Also, note that team members will be mostly Lander University nursing students and their supervisors, but anyone is welcome to apply.

We look forward to meeting all of you and to a very successful work for the Lord! Leslie Myers is a nurse practitioner and a Senior Clinical Director for South University Online. If needed, you can contact her at: lmactag@hotmail.com. Ashley Lee is a registered nurse and professor of nursing at Lander University. She can be reached at: alee@lander.edu.
