Volunteers In Medical Missions

Hispaniola- Dominican Republic and Haiti

Cost: $1,700 -- Team Members Needed

Leader: Kirby Phillips

This team will have the unique opportunity to work in 2 very different countries, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti. These 2 countries make up the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic occupying the eastern 2/3 of Hispaniola and Haiti the western 1/3 of the island. Both countries possess rich cultures. However, the medical needs among the people are great, particularly among the Haitian communities living in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Focus will be on these communities in both countries. This team will minister to the physical and spiritual needs of Haitians and Dominicans in the Dominican Republic during 3 days of clinics after entering Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Accommodations in Santo Domingo will be at the home of a missionary. Following the 3 days of clinics in the Dominican Republic, the team will travel to Cap Haitien, Haiti on the north coast of Haiti for 3 additional days of medical clinics. Accommodations in Cap Haitien will be in the home of a Haitian-American.

In the clinics, doctors and other medical professionals will see patients, nurses will assist with triage and work in the pharmacy, and non-medical members will offer eyeglasses, assist with the pharmacy, and do other work as needed. Physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, and non-medical helpers are needed.

Daily devotions will be done by the team. Team members are encouraged to pray with patients. Prayerfully consider joining this team which will work hard to impact communities in 2 countries with the love of Christ demonstrated through medical care. Please be prepared for difficult conditions and be willing to be flexible as the need arises. This can be a unique life changing experience for each team member.
