Team Leader: Kimberle Deller, NP
The Peru October 2018 team will depart from Atlanta on Thursday, October 11 and fly into Lima arriving at 11 PM. We will have a lay-over at the airport and take a second flight in the early morning to Iquitos, a Peruvian port city and gateway to the tribal villages of the northern Amazon region. From there we will take a taxi to Nauta and share a breakfast with our Peruvian team members. We will rest in Nauta that day and also prepare for the upcoming clinics.
On the following clinic days we will depart each morning on a river boat and travel down the Ucayali, Amazon, and Maranon Rivers to hold clinics in various villages. These areas are normally served by only one MD and one healthcare worker. As this is our third trip to this region we hope to nurture our relationships with national pastors and the healthcare workers as we assist in serving the people of this area. We have attempted to make a significant difference by providing education and access to clean water. Each evening we will return to Port Nauta for a late dinner.
This trip is for the adventurous volunteer who can tolerate hot and humid conditions (we will be there during the beginning of the rainy season). Our hotel in Nauta has air-conditioned rooms and will give us a reprieve from the heat.
By the end of the week we will have served many people who do not normally have access to care. Our goal is always to show the love of Christ and share the gospel to those who may not know Him while serving our brothers and sister in Christ.
We will return back to the United States on Saturday, October 20.
