Honduras July 2018

Jul. 29 2018 — Aug. 09 2018

Team Leader: Andy Leisring, RN
Medical Director: Dr. William Wehrman

Andy has been traveling with the organization to the village of San Antonio de La Cuesta since 2010. The village of San Antonio de La Cuesta is just 45 minutes north of Comayagua city, in the province of Comayagua in central Honduras. The village has 5,000 inhabitants and the clinic there serves the region of 15,000 people. We have been conducting missions there during the early part of August for many years. The trip is a general medical mission that has typically involved 3-5 medical doctors, a few nurses and a pharmacist, and college students and lay adults with between 15-20 participants each summer. We have a firm and established relationship with the local people. A new chapter of the organization La Asociación Gozo y Esperanza which is a Honduran NGO will officially sponsors our visit. The Catholic parish in San Antonio is a co sponsor. Lodging and food will be provided by the locals. We alternate working in the clinic in the village and going to the mountains for outreach days on an alternating day format. There will be ½ to 1 day for sightseeing. The last night will be in La Ceiba. The flight will be into Tegucigalpa & will return from San Pedro Sula.

The team plans to see between 100 and 300 patients each day. The days are long but you will be glad that you made the trip. We expect everyone to contribute to the effort with prayer, hard work, flexibility and a positive attitude. We would encourage all those that are going, to please comply with the dates that VIMM has established for returning your application and the dates for payments.
We look forward to meeting and working with all of you! Andy is a registered nurse at UC Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. William Wehrman is a board certified family medicine physician and currently working at St. Joseph London Medical Center and Bourbon County Medical Center in their emergency department since 2007 after having completed an emergency medicine fellowship.
