
VOLUNTEER MEDICAL AND MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES
Location: San Juan de la Maguana

The team will arrive in Santo Domingo on Saturday where we will spend a night. On Sunday we will travel west (3-4 hrs.) to San Juan de la Maguana, where we will stay in a guesthouse with dormitory style lodging, which accommodates Christian volunteer teams. The guesthouse is accustomed to caring for Americans and will provide linens, towels, and a laundry service. Meals will also be served at the guesthouse. We will pack medicines on Sunday afternoon and night. An established medical clinic is also located there on the guesthouse premises. Each day the team will travel to various villages in a poor area and hold medical clinic. There are preliminary plans for Vacation Bible School for the children. We will return to Santo Domingo on Friday for sightseeing and then fly home on Saturday.
Dr. Hannay is a family physician in Rome, Georgia and has served on 19 Dominican Republic trips since 2005.
Teri Lash-Ritter is a family physician who serves as Associate Chief Experience Officer at Cleveland Clinic and has served on mission teams in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

TRIP FULL
Location: Riobamba, Ecuador
South of Quito and Ambato in the High Andes
Altitude 11,800 feet above sea level. Rubber boots are recommended
Clinic:
4 days of clinic and one day to relax and see sights, make purchases.
The clinic will be held outside of Riobamba in the community of Lucud where a small church has been planted. They have been granted special permission to have a clinic and to hold meetings. The greatest need seems to be back and joint pain. The purpose is to strengthen the church and to introduce new people to this work.
This is primarily a Quichua outreach. However, most of the people do speak and understand Spanish.
Lodging:
There are several options which include a mission guest house near the clinic site. This would house 18 people and is equipped with 6 bathrooms. Another option would be individual housing (couples and individuals) at Cabasas Valles del Sol located in Chambo. This place has 7 rooms and capacity for 16 people. They offer a buffet breakfast, which includes fresh milk, house cheese, house butter, Viennese bread, natural juices , fruits, yogurt, cereal (granola and nuts), tea, coffee.
Meals:
Meals will be provided by missionary personal (Canadians) for breakfast and super light lunch will be provided for the clinic days. Team members might want to bring snack items.
Interpreters:
Interpreters will be provided from the staff of Open Air Campaigners and the Proano family.
VASE (Voluntarios en Ayuda Social y Evangelismo)
This is a non-profit organization incorporated in Peru and has the responsibility for the organization and coordination of the outreach. A small group of Peruvians which will include support staff, medical professionals and interpreters will travel from Peru to support the outreach.
Day off:
After 4 days of clinic a day off will be planned. There is an area called Banos de Agua Santa which can be visited for purchases and visited for a well-deserved rest.
This will be Dr. Dave Sealy’s 11th trip to Ecuador as the team leader. He has participated in 29 VIMM trips since 1991. Dr. Sealy is the founder of Sports Medicine Fellowship at Self Regional Healthcare Family Practice Residency in Greenwood, South Carolina; Full Professor at MUSC, AHEC; and Team Physician at Lander University. He has been married to Ann for 39 years and has six really great kids.

Location: Olanchito, Honduras
****This team will depart from Miami****
**Trip Requirement – all team members must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 at least 2-3 weeks prior to trip departure.**
After landing in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on Friday, March 18, 2022,
the team will travel to Olanchito, Honduras in trucks and/or vans (5-6
hour journey). We will stay in the Beverly Hotel in Olanchito. The team
will conduct primary care clinics with a focus on health promotion in
villages located within 1-2 hours from Olanchito each day. Team
physicians will evaluate and treat all patients presenting to the
clinics and have the capability to care for ill patients, administer
steroid joint injections, perform minor surgery, and fit for eye
glasses.
We will spend a day of relaxation in the coastal town of Tela on Friday,
March 25th. We will leave Olanchito early on Friday and stay at the
Hotel Playa Bonita. Beach activities and shopping are nearby; there is
also opportunity to enjoy the beach and go snorkeling. The team will
depart from the San Pedro Sula airport on Saturday morning.
Dr. Gary Goforth is the former Founding Program Director for the family
medicine residency program sponsored by the Florida State University
College of Medicine and is the medical director at Shell Point
Retirement Community. He lives in Fort Myers, FL with his wife, Kathy.
He has led over 50 VIMM trips and from 2008-2009 served as a VIMM
sponsored missionary in Kabul, Afghanistan. He is a current VIMM board
member and board chairman and has previously served as an advisory board
member.
